Hello Blog

So, it finally happened. 
SelkieMinis is shut down on Etsy and now I actually have to make this store here work. I really only have myself to blame, I should have seen it coming and been better prepared. Heck, I’ve had this store for months and only now have I paid for the domain and started filling the store with miniatures to sell. I really should have done all this already. 

Shopify suggests that I call this blog “News” which I suppose is also a suggestion of its contents. For now I think “Life After…” suits it, it will feature me rambling my way through a transition to a hopefully new adventure, but will also primarily feature news about the store. Maybe if something more suitable comes up down the line I’ll rename it. 

As I open this shop, launch this blog and start to create “News” I want to reiterate my mission statement to myself and you. 

I don’t want to make this a “business”. Thats corporate, I hate that. This was never about making as much money as I can. I was lucky enough to have a 3d printer, it was ultimately more printing space than I needed for myself so I decided to share my hobby with as many people as I could. I only had to make “enough” to make it worth it. We live in a world where money means less and less and people have to decide whether or not to heat their homes over winter or buy food. I never want to contribute to that. If I can provide a little luxury for cheap that’s more than enough for me. This will never be about forcing people to choose. 

I want to provide good quality items. The low price tag shouldn’t mean people should expect over exposed, brittle and detailess miniatures. Certainly some designs print better than others but I aim to print miniatures that are as close to what the artist imagined as possible. 

I want to be approachable and provide good service. Again, this isnt supposed to be a “business”.  Yuck!  This is me sharing my hobby, sharing miniatures from great designers and attempting to put a little joy out there. When customers have questions the last thing I want to do is sound as corporate and detached as possible in my response, you know, refer to everything as “the product”, recycle claims to listen and care whilst stepping away from responsibility. If I make a mistake I have to own it and apologise. I am the one who has made a promise to you. 

I may revisit this post once I find my feet again, rewrite it or just expand it as I discover more about working with the new system. Until then, I’ve got to get Printing.
